UPDATE: Corker visits fire damage in Hamilton County

UPDATE: Sen. Bob Corker arrived in Hamilton County Monday morning to get a first-hand look at the fire damage.

Corker, a former Chattanooga mayor, talked with firefighting crews and administrators to get an update on the wildfires.

"It looks like they [the firefighters] may be able to make it home for Thanksgiving, Corker said Monday morning.


PREVIOUS STORY: CHATTANOOGA, TN (AP) - U.S. Sen. Bob Corker is planning to tour fire damage in Hamilton County as firefighters continue to battle wildfires in Tennessee and elsewhere in the Southeast.

The Tennessee Republican's office says Corker will receive a briefing on Monday from the state Department of Agriculture Division of Forestry.

Officials say dozens of wildfires have burned an estimated 190 square miles across the Southeast.

In Tennessee, the smoke has been especially dense in such places as Knoxville and Chattanooga.

Asthma sufferers and others with breathing problems have been turning up at hospitals and doctors' waiting rooms, wheezing and hacking
