Sequatchie Co. holds off East Ridge in overtime to move to 3A semifinals

Posted: Updated:

Sequatchie County was able to put a stop to East Ridge's powerful run game when it needed it the most, winning 21-14 in overtime Friday night.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Pioneers capitalized on an Indians' turnover and were able to get on the board first after quarterback Eric Bennetts pass was complete to Alonzo Russell for the score,

With five minutes left before the break, Sequatchie Co. took the lead after Austin Stephens laid out for a catch from quarterback Ethan Barker. The Indians led 7-6 at halftime.

Both teams would then add a touchdown in the second half to send it into overtime, 14-14.

Barker went with the quarterback keeper, running in the overtime touchdown for the Indians. The Pioneers had to score on their possession and immediately regretted their decision to pass the ball after Bennett's pass was intercepted yards away from the goal line, finalizing the 21-14 score.

The undefeated Indians will now host Alcoa in the 3A semifinals next week.
