Cleveland Fire Department responded to a fire at Blackburn Road apartment building early Thursday morning.
The call came at approximately midnight.
Chief Ron Harrison says when firefighters arrived they were told there were people inside the apartment. Two firefighters entered the room and were forced back out. Chief Harrison says that one of their helmets was destroyed and that it was an “intense” situation.
Firefighters were able to rescue the two residents, and they were transported to a local hospital by Bradley County EMS. The extent of their injuries is not known at this time. Animals were rescued and were revived on scene by first responders.
There was no working smoke detector in the apartment.
The fire was contained to the apartment and caused $45,000 in damage. The rest of the apartment complex was not damaged.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
