Atlanta drought is city's longest since 1961
Atlanta has now gone 30 consecutive days without rain for the first time in more than 50 years.
ATLANTA (AP) - Atlanta has now gone 30 consecutive days without rain for the first time in more than 50 years.
News outlets report that Wednesday marked the 31st straight day without measurable rainfall, the longest drought since 1961.
WSB-TV (http://2wsb.tv/2gkebBD ) reports the city's longest recorded dry streak, 39 days, was set in 1884.
The lack of rain has made much of Georgia prime for wildfires. More than 35,000 acres have burned across north Georgia this year.
