Ice on the Landing returns; this season at the Choo Choo

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -

Ice on the Landing returns to Chattanooga, but in a new location for 2016-17.

Sponsored by Volkswagen Chattanooga, the ice skating season begins Friday, November 18, in its new location at the Chattanooga Choo Choo’s Glenn Miller Gardens.

This season's rink measures 140’ X 40’ and is an open-air skating rink surrounded by gas lanterns, antique trains and fountains at the iconic landmark.

The rink will open Friday at 6:00pm with a live organ performance by Buddy Shirk from 6:00-7:00pm, playing nostalgic holiday music.

The rink will be open every day from November 18 through January 16, with the new rink and new skates, all being designed specifically for this new space.

Ticket pricing will remain the same, at $10 for an adult ticket, and $8 for skaters aged 12 and under. This includes skate rentals and a two-hour skate session.

The rink continues to be locally managed and operated through professional event producer, Chattanooga Presents. According to Carla Pritchard, Chattanooga Presents owner, “We love being part of the entertainment district in the Southside. It would be hard to imagine a more picture-perfect setting than the beautiful gardens in the Choo Choo, and we feel like this location will offer a lot of amenities for our guests such as convenient parking, shuttle service and indoor restrooms.”

Rink-side vending will include hot chocolate, Nutella crepes from Adelle’s Ice Cream Creperie, as well as barbeque sliders, bratwurst, redneck burritos, grilled cheese, tomato soup, and cobbler from Puckett’s Restaurant.  Soft drinks, coffee, beer and wine and hot dogs will also be sold from the Choo Choo Caboose.

The only ice-skating option offered either indoors or outdoors in Chattanooga, Ice on the Landing has established itself as a new wintertime tradition by offering a new and unique recreational opportunity during the holiday timeframe.

Ice on the Landing will be open every day within its eight-week season, including a lively schedule that accommodates public skating and features special themes and events, music and promotions, as well as certain nights that benefit local charities.

Birthday skating parties will continue to be offered, with pizza and cupcakes being served in an indoor Arcade next to the rink. Season passes will continue to be offered for $100 for individuals and $200 for a family of four, as well as gift cards for the rink. In addition, Ice on the Landing will offer a Basic Skills skating course each Saturday morning from 9:00-10:00am prior to opening.

Ice on the Landing presented by Volkswagen Chattanooga is also made possible through sponsorships from Tennessee Valley Federal Credit Union, BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, Maven Group LLC, Puckett’s Chattanooga, Children’s Hospital at Erlanger, Warren & Griffin and Krystal.

Media partners are the Chattanooga Times Free Press, Sunny 92.3/Hits 96 and WRCB TV 3.

Information, FAQs, operating hours and activities on the rink are available at www.iceonthelanding.com.
