A Chattanooga man is accused of trying to run over several police officers with his car.

Police arrested 27-year-old James Shepheard on Friday.

Court records show police went to Crutchfield Street where there was a party going on. Investigators apparently smelled marijuana nearby and asked the driver what he was doing, which he said he was smoking and drinking.

When police asked for his ID, that's when they said the man tried to run them over. That led to a high speed chase, which ended on Holtzclaw Avenue.

Officers found several items inside the car including a gun, marijuana, and an opened liquor bottle.

Police also discovered Shepheard's license was suspended and the car he was driving wasn't his.Court records show the owner of the car told police Shepheard took the car without permission.

Shepheard faces several charges including aggravated assault and reckless endangerment.
