NBC NEWS - Donald Trump has named Reince Priebus, chairman of the Republican National Committee, as his White House chief of staff, NBC News has learned.
The Republican, who is serving his third term with the RNC, was reported to be at the top of Trump's shortlist for the key White House position. That list also reportedly included Steve Bannon, Trump's controversial campaign CEO whose website, Breitbart News, has espoused anti-Semitic and nationalist views.
The decision to tap Priebus for the role further contradicts Trump's campaign promise to "drain the swamp" of so-called Washington D.C. elites from politics.
“It is truly an honor to join President-elect Trump in the White House as his Chief of Staff,” Priebus said. “I am very grateful to the President-elect for this opportunity to serve him and this nation as we work to create an economy that works for everyone, secure our borders, repeal and replace Obamacare and destroy radical Islamic terrorism. He will be a great President for all Americans.”
