Part of Cherokee National Forest closed because of fire

Posted: Updated:

The U.S. Forest Service closed the entire Citico Creek Wilderness and the portion of the Joyce Kilmer-Slickrock Wilderness in the Cherokee National Forest in Tennessee.

A Cherokee National Forest official says the closure was necessary for safety reasons due to wildfire activity in the Joyce Kilmer- Slickrock Wilderness in North Carolina.
There's a possibility of that fire moving into the Cherokee National Forest.
