Martin takes contested Hamilton Co. Commissioner Seat 3

Posted: Updated:

The position of District 3 County Commissioner in Hamilton County has been empty since August. Now, that position is filled and a seat on the Hamilton Co. School Board is open.

Republican candidate Greg Martin won the election for County Commissioner Tuesday night, winning 61% percent of the votes. His opponent, independent candidate Joe Smith tallied 39% of the votes.

District 3 represents Hixon, Middle Valley, Lakesite, and Big Ridge.

"It feels great knowing that you have your friends and family that have believed in you and have gone the extra mile to get out and vote in the neighborhood. I had scores of people tell me that they voted because friends wrote them a card, knocked on their door, talked to them about it. You just feel good when you know you have that many friends out there helping you."

Martin has been a member of the Hamilton County School board since 2012. Martin says the first thing he will do is find a replacement.
