UPDATE. Weekend house fire ruled accidental

UPDATE: Investigators have determined that the cause of the weekend fire to be accidental.   

An elderly neighbor's trash fire, which was believed to be extinguished, rekindled spreading to the back porch of 5409 Mulberry Street in Ooltewah.   

The fire then continued to spread throughout the residence.

The house, which was unoccupied at the time, is considered a total loss and is valued at $65,000.00.

Because of the extremely dry conditions in the Tennessee Valley, the Chattanooga/Hamilton County Air Pollution Control Bureau has a burning ban is in effect.

PREVIOUS STORY: The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fire that occurred at a vacant home in Ooltewah.

The fire occurred on the 5200 block of Mulberry Street around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.

EMA Director, Tony Reavley, said it happened at a mobile home undergoing renovations.

Reavley said it partially collapsed because of the fire.

Officials are not sure what caused the fire, but the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the cause.

No one was home at the time and no injuries were reported.
