UPDATE: Volkswagen unveiled their new midsize SUV, named "Atlas" Tuesday at VW's Chattanooga facility.

The new vehicle was shown to employees and the media during quarterly VW's All-Team meeting Tuesday.

Volkswagen has invested some $600 million dollars and will add 2,000 new jobs at their Chattanooga facility to produce the new Atlas SUV.

This should eventually bring the total number of VW workers to 3,400.

Hinrich J. Woebcken, Volkswagen CEO of the North America Region, unveiled the automaker's latest edition to its fleet on the Santa Monica Pier at the western end of the historic Route 66, naming it "Atlas."

The 7-passenger vehicle will be made at Volkswagen's Chattanooga plant, where the Passat has been in production since 2011.

While no specific date has been confirmed, production is expected to begin at the end of 2016.
