Deadly I-75 crash after police pursuit
Police investigating a late night crash that left one person dead.
Officers on the scene of another call heard what sounded like a vehicle pursuit and a crash.
Dispatchers confirm to Channel 3 that Catoosa County deputies had been in a chase when the suspect vehicle crashed at the Ringgold Road overpass.
When police arrived, they found the suspect's vehicle had actually left the roadway in the 6700 block of Ringgold Road and went airborne, landing in the center storage lane of northbound Interstate 75.
The vehicle had struck the center wall and almost immediately caught fire.
Officers at the scene attempted to assist the driver of the vehicle but were unsuccessful due to a large fire engulfing the vehicle.
The driver was killed in the crash and resulting fire. The Tennessee Highway Patrol, East Ridge Fire Department, Chattanooga Fire Department, and various other emergency personnel responded to the scene.
