Good Thursday. Fall is finally approaching the Tennessee Valley on the back of a cold front moving in late today! After more record breaking high temperatures yesterday (Chattanooga, Knoxville, and Nashville all broke records), we will be warm again today. The record high is 88. We will get to 86 this afternoon. Clouds will also be on the increase this afternoon. The front will bring scattered showers and thunderstorms late this afternoon into tonight. Some of the rain will be heavy at times, and winds will be gusty near where storms develop. Rainfall amounts will average about 1/2", but I think we may see some areas getting up to an inch. It will help, but after this we are looking at another week at least of no rain so the drought will still be pervasive even after this rain.
Friday we can expect a cool and breezy day. While we may see some showers lingering overnight into Friday morning, the rain will be gone by the time you head out for school and work. Behind the front we will see winds from the north at 10-20 mph and afternoon highs in the mid-60s which is actually about 7 degrees BELOW average. Skies will be clearing through the day.
Saturday looks amazing. We will start chilly with temps in the upper 30s and low 40s. The afternoon will see light winds, sunshine, and highs in the mid-60s.
Sunday will start chilly as well with a low of 43 in Chattanooga. It will be a bit warmer in the afternoon, though, as the high climbs to a perfect 74 degrees.
Next week we will settle into a nice fall pattern. At least through Thursday we will have sunshine, lows in the upper 40s, and highs in the mid-70s.
