WHITFIELD COUNTY, GA (WRCB) -

The Whitfield County Sheriff's Office says a car fire in Dalton ignited a brush fire Monday afternoon.

According to the incident report, someone intentionally set a car on fire on Stockton Road and left it to burn.

Deputies tried to locate a VIN (number) but the car was too damaged.

Whitfield County fire officials say the brush fire was turned over to the Georgia Forestry Commission (GFC).

A GFC spokesperson says the fire was extinguished.

Georgia is not under a burn ban, but officials warn you must have a permit to burn items.

The person responsible could face charges of first degree arson.
