The Whitfield County Sheriff's Office says a car fire in Dalton ignited a brush fire Monday afternoon.
According to the incident report, someone intentionally set a car on fire on Stockton Road and left it to burn.
Deputies tried to locate a VIN (number) but the car was too damaged.
Whitfield County fire officials say the brush fire was turned over to the Georgia Forestry Commission (GFC).
A GFC spokesperson says the fire was extinguished.
Georgia is not under a burn ban, but officials warn you must have a permit to burn items.
The person responsible could face charges of first degree arson.
