Police: 2 charged after shots fired at trooper during chase
SHANNON HILL, Va. (AP) - Authorities in Virginia say two people from Tennessee are facing charges after one fired at a trooper during a high-speed chase on Interstate 64.
Virginia State Police said in a release late Sunday that they arrested 33-year-old Mistri Griffith and 32-year-old Paul Zamorano of Kingsport, Tennessee, after the chase in Louisa County on Saturday.
Police say they tried to stop a car for speeding, and Griffith sped away, topping 100 mph. Police say Zamorano fired at a pursuing cruiser, hitting it twice. The trooper wasn't injured. After the car crashed, police say Griffith and Zamorano were taken to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
Griffith is charged with reckless driving and possession of a stolen vehicle and Zamorano faces seven felony charges, including attempted capital murder of a law enforcement officer.
