The 12th Annual Forgotten Child Crappie Tournament Set New Record

Posted: Updated:

CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) - The 12th annual Forgotten Child Crappie Tournament was held at Chester Frost Park Saturday, October 8th, 2016. The event was hosted by the Chattanooga Crappie Club to help the Forgotten Child Fund collect toys for families who need a little help providing Christmas to their children. Over 40 teams came out to participate in this year's annual event.

Forgotten Child Fund is an annual project of the Chattanooga Police Dept., and later the Chattanooga Fire Dept became enthusiastic participants which now provide Christmas gifts for over 7,000 area children.

Tournament directors Dave Ohms and Jim Edmister said, "We would like to thank everyone who supported this cause, and we are sure this will give some child a very nice Christmas." This is the main reason we have tournaments like this. We reached a record goal this year raising $10,500 dollars for the kids.’

The team of Dave East and Jim Minor took first place with a total weight of 6.58 lbs. They received $533 for the win.

Second place went to the team of Brian and Tina Howard with a total weight of 6.57 lbs.

Big fish of the tournament went to the team of Brian and Aiden Cordell with a crappie that weighed 1.33 lbs.

Dave said, “This tournament is all about the kids. What a great event this is.”
