Autumn colors are beginning to dot ridges throughout the Tennessee Valley, and if you want to see some of the region’s most beautiful panoramic vistas – check out the Cherohala Skyway.

Winding for more than 40 miles from Tellico Plains to Robbinsville, North Carolina, the byway – a national scenic byway – rises more than a mile above sea level. There are some lesser maintained roads for those who seek a bit more of an adventure. A higher vehicle clearance is suggested due to the rough terrain.

In the valley, the Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest is one of the nation’s most impressive remnants of old-growth forest. A jewel of the region, Joyce Kilmer contains examples of more than 100 tree species. Many of the trees are at least 400 years old. The only way to see the forest is on foot by trail.

Channel 3 is asking our viewers to submit people and places they would like to see highlighted in our newscasts. It’s simple, we want to know about good people in good places, doing good things.
