Attorney accused of stealing from client's trust fund

Posted: Updated:

Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Special Agents obtained indictments for a McMinn County attorney accused of taking money from a client's trust fund.

At the request of former 10th District Attorney General Steve Bebb, TBI Agents began investigating Larry D. Cantrell on May 13, 2014. During the course of the investigation, Agents developed information that, while serving as a Trustee for a fund designated for the Jones Chapel United Methodist Church and Cemetery, Cantrell took a large sum of the money, which he has not accounted for to date.

The McMinn County Grand Jury returned indictments, charging Cantrell, 65, with one count of Theft over $60,000 and one count of Tampering with Evidence.

On, Monday, he turned himself into TBI Agents at the McMinn County Jail, and was booked on a $10,000 bond.
