The Whitfield County Sheriff's Office responded to a fire at the Whitfield County Jail Saturday night.

Officials say correctional officers noticed smoke in the tower section of the jail around 11:30 p.m., and found the source of the fire within minutes.

Officers responded with gear and a fire extinguisher, and had the fire out within ten minutes.

Officials say two inmates lit hygiene products and toilet paper inside of a stainless steel toilet paper holder in an individual cell, which caused the fire.

One officer was exposed to smoke, and was treated as a safety precaution.

No one suffered any serious injuries from the fire.

The two inmates involved received felony charges of Interference with Government Property.
