GBI investigating officer involved shooting in Dallas Georgia

Posted: Updated:

Dallas, Georgia –  On Saturday, October 1, 2016, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) was requested by the Dallas Police Department to investigate an officer involved shooting that occurred in the 200 block of Park Street, Dallas, GA.

Officials say the preliminary information provided by Dallas authorities indicates that at approximately 11:07 PM, two Dallas PD officers responded to a hit and run incident at East Cooper and Park Street.  When the officers arrived in the Park Street area, the subject’s vehicle was located.

Officials say the driver initially complied; however, as officers approached the vehicle, he restarted the vehicle and attempted to run over the officers.  Both officers fired multiple times, striking the vehicle.

Authorities say the officers then gave chase behind the vehicle and the vehicle wrecked in the 1500 block of Industrial Boulevard North Dallas. Officers deployed a taser and took Cody McKenzie, age 25, into custody. Police say McKenzie suffered a gunshot to his right arm. He was taken to Kennestone Hospital for treatment before being released into the custody of the Dallas Police Department, Sunday.

GBI agents say they will conduct an independent investigation to determine what happened during the incident.  When the investigation is complete, it will be turned over to the Paulding County District Attorney's Office for review.
