Hamilton County deputies say a naked man was arrested Friday for erratic driving that led to a crash on Highway 111 Friday.

It happened around 11:40 a.m.

Sheriff's Office spokesman Matt Lea says deputies received several reports of a 2005 silver Mitsubishi Lancer speeding north on the highway, moving from lane to lane.

Lea says the driver of the Lancer, Dennis Nixon II, 24, eventually drove into the southbound lanes and attempted to hit a couple head-on. The couple was able to avoid Nixon by driving off the road.

Lea says Nixon tried to hit another driver who wasn't so lucky.

"Shortly after that, Nixon's northbound vehicle was traveling toward another southbound vehicle operated by Regina Carson," Matt Lea says. "Carson stated when she swerved right to avoid Nixon's vehicle, he matched her lane change. She then swerved her vehicle left and Nixon's vehicle swerved into that lane and struck her vehicle."

Carson was driving a 2008 Dodge Avenger that belongs to SETHRA (Southeast Tennessee Human Resource Agency). Lea says the impact caused the air bags to deploy in both cars.

Carson was evaluated by EMS on scene and declined transport to the hospital.

When deputies arrived at the scene, Lea says Nixon was being restrained by several bystanders.

"A deputy on scene stated Nixon was still unclothed and making statements about his father and God," Lea says. "After being medically cleared by EMS, Nixon told a deputy he loved her, tried to kiss her, and admitted to consuming "acid" that God gave him because he wanted him to be “free”."

Nixon was taken to the Hamilton County Jail where he was evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert.

The expert declared him unfit to drive a car and suspected drug use.

Lea says Nixon has been charged with three counts of Aggravated Assault, Felony Reckless Endangerment, Driving Under the Influence, Felony Vandalism, Driving Wrong Way on Roadway and Indecent Exposure.
