It's another exciting year in Chickamauga for Gordon Lee High School's Marching Trojans!

In the midst of football season, they started competition just last week with an appearance at the Mid South Marching Band Festival in Gadsden, Alabama. Ahead on their schedule is the Bradley Classic tomorrow in Cleveland and Peach State in Rome, Georgia on October 22nd.

Their show is really something special. Entitled "A Time for Joy," it's presented in three movements. The first, 'A Time of Innocence,' represents childhood. Certainly you will recognize themes from Simple Gifts, the Shaker song made popular in Aaron Copland's Appalachian Spring. The second section, 'A Time the Defines Us' honors members of the community who have been lost. It features an original piece by Justin Williams, a balled called "October Farewell." And, the finale, 'A Time for Joy' celebrates healing and moving on to a brighter future. The last movement of Beethoven's 9th, "Ode to Joy," closes out their performance with power.

There are about 100 members in the group this year with 20 seniors and they would love to see you at some of their shows! If you'd like to help in any way, call the Gordon Lee Bandroom and ask to speak directly to Director Burt Haynes.

For now, get ready to get pumped up. For us, from the stands, the Marching Trojans play the theme from Rocky. Thanks to the students from Gordon Lee, our Friday Night Football Band of the Week!
