CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -

Dozens of Hamilton County Courthouse employees and elected officials honored their retiring auditor, at a reception in the courthouse rotunda.

Bill McGriff steps down on Friday after more than 41 years of service, the last 38 as County Auditor.  McGriff is a native of Bryant, Alabama, and served in the military before joining an accounting firm.  He was hired by the county in 1975, and said he only intended to work there for about three years.  But instead he stayed for the long haul, and says he has loved every minute, especially working with some great people.  He says he and his wife Marti intend to do some traveling.

In addition to his county duties, McGriff serves on the board of the Hamilton County Water and Wastewater Treatment Authority as well as the Northwest Utility District.  He is on the Public Records Commission and the Erlanger Hospital Financial Review Committee, and is involved in Erlanger's indigent care program.
