Tennessee State University band performing at White House

Posted: Updated:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Tennessee State University's marching band is performing Friday on the east lawn of the White House in celebration of the opening of the National Museum of African American History and Culture.

The Smithsonian Institution's new museum will have its grand opening on Saturday on the National Mall.

TSU Music Department head Robert Elliott says it's an honor to have the university's Aristocrat of Bands chosen for the performance.

The university said in a news release it also has several items included as part of opening exhibits at the museum. TSU special projects director Grant Winrow helped coordinate the display and says the items and the band will show everyone what TSU can do.
