UPDATE: Three Bradley Co. corrections officers suspended after third inmate death
The Sheriff's Office says three correction officers have been suspended pending the outcome of an internal affairs investigation.
UPDATE: Three Bradley County corrections officers have been suspended while the Sheriff's Office investigates the death of an inmate.
Sheriff's Office spokesman James Bradford said an internal affairs is investigating the death of Ralph Nelms along with the TBI.
Nelms was in jail for stealing from several businesses and a construction site. The Sheriff's Office said he hanged himself at the Bradley County jail on Sunday.
Deputy Gabe Black, Deputy Ron Reddish, and Sgt. Tim Boyd have been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.
In March, the TBI investigated the death of 53-year-old inmate Hershel Dover. Sheriff Eric Watson said Dover died of natural causes at the time.
A second inmate at the jail, 39-year-old Billy Joe Rogers, died at Erlanger on April 30 after he was found unconscious April 29 at the jail.
Nelms was found Sunday hanging in his cell.
