Gordon Co. officials investigating toddler drowning

Posted: Updated:
GORDON COUNTY, GA (WRCB) -

Gordon County Sheriff's Office are investigating a drowning of a 2 1/2 year old child, that occurred Monday night.

Around 7:35 p.m. deputies were dispatched to a private residence on Knight Bottom Road. Police say a volunteer firefighter responded to the residence and attempted CPR before the arrival or deputies. The first deputy arrived on scene within six minutes and was quickly joined by Gordon County Fire Rescue personnel who initiated emergency medical aid.

The Fire Rescue personnel worked rapidly to attempt to revive the child, and an air-rescue helicopter was sent to the scene. The two-and-half year old boy was transported to Gordon Hospital emergency room where he was subsequently pronounced dead despite the concentrated efforts to save him by all of the medical personnel.

Investigators were on scene for several hours. The toddler's parents reported having found the child unresponsive in a partially filled swimming pool before calling 911.

The pool had some water standing in the deepest end, and was not fenced. There is no reason to suspect foul play. The investigation is ongoing.
