Suspect in Lookout Valley triple murder asks to have case separated from fellow defendant

Posted: Updated:

One of the suspects in the 2014 Lookout Valley triple murder has asked to have his case severed from the other suspect.

The motion, filed earlier this week by Skyler Allen's attorneys, asks for Allen to be tried separately from Derek Morse, the other defendant that was indicted.

A third person, then juvenile Jacob Allison, faces the same charges as the two men. Since Allison was a juvenile at the time of the crime, his case has not been scheduled to go to trial.

The three are accused of killing Caleb Boozer, Jon Morris and John Lang in a dispute over a $20 debt.

The motion says that Allen cannot be given a fair trial because the "Defendant has recently received information making it clear that a fair trial cannot be held…" but doesn't explain the nature of the information.

The motion will be addressed in an October 24 hearing.

The trial is set to begin January 17, 2017.
