UPDATE: An elderly woman continues to recover from severe injuries after being bitten by a dog over the weekend.
It happened at a home on Bay View Drive in Lakesite on Saturday.
Channel 3 has learned the dog's owner has been in court previously for the 3-year-old pitbull getting out.
This is the first time officials with the Humane Educational Society said they've had reports of the dog acting aggressively.
HES officials tell Channel 3 the owner of the dog rendered aid on Saturday to the 79-year-old woman and went to the hospital after the attack.
It's unclear what provoked the attack, that's what HES officials are looking into now.
We do know the dog was not up to date on its rabies vaccine, so it's being held at the moment.
HES officials say they've learned they've had reports about this particular dog in the past.
"The animal was running and it did chase somebody but it didn't hurt anybody and so here we are today, though where it appears, and I'm still investigating, but they did not follow the proper procedure," HES Executive Director Bob Citrullo.
Officials are working to answer a lot of the questions surrounding what happened before deciding what's next.
No one is facing charges in this case.
