UPDATE: GoFundMe user "Taylor Swift" donates $5,000 to local family of crash victim

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -

UPDATE: A GoFundMe account set up for the family of a former Heritage High student killed in a crash exceeded its goal, thanks to hundreds of donors, including one with a very familiar name.

The goal for the account, set up in memory of Katie Beth Carter, was set at $30,000, but now sits at $34,019.

The account was created by friends of the Carter family to help them cover medical costs and funeral expenses.

The page has received a lot of attention with donations from 541 people, including a $5,000 donation from a user claiming to be Taylor Swift.

Channel 3 has not been able to verify the authenticity of the post.

Katie Beth's sister, Kimi, thanked Swift via an Instagram post Thursday. "I cannot believe this at all... thank you so much, Taylor... me and my sister are smiling so hard... @taylorswift," as she acknowledged Swift's conbtribution. 

Katie Carter was killed as a result of crash while driving back to Jacksonville State University in Alabama, Monday.

Alabama state troopers said a tractor-trailer hit her around 3:40pm at the intersection of Highway 278 and Roy Webb Road,10 miles north of Jacksonville.

Carter was airlifted from the crash scene to Grady Memorial Hospital in Georgia, where she was pronounced dead at around 6:00pm.

Visitation was held Thursday night at City Church in Chattanooga from 4-7pm. The funeral was held immediately after.
