UPDATE: Donald Stuard has been charged with attempted first-degree murder for shooting Adam Brown in the face in front of his 10-year-old son, according to affidavits obtained by Channel 3.

According to police, Adam approached Stuard at the station's gas pumps and "scared him." That apparently escalated in a verbal argument that ended with the shooting.

Stuard told police he dumped the pistol in the water near the Old Washington bridge in Rhea County.

Stuard is in jail with a bond of $450,000.

PREVIOUS STORY: Sheriff's deputies arrested a suspect in connection to a shooting in the Bakewell community near Soddy Daisy Monday evening.

The incident happened at the BP gas station on Dayton Pike near McCallie Ferry Road around 5:15pm. 

Hamilton County Sheriff's Office spokesman Matt Lea says 29-year-old Donald Stuard was arrested at a motel in Rhea County with the help of Rhea deputies for the shooting of 33-year-old Adam Brown.

Lea says the arrest was made around 7:00pm, thanks to the help of eyewitnesses who gave investigators key information.

Brown was taken to a local hospital, where Lea says, he continues to receive medical treatment.

Lea says Stuard is being booked in the Hamilton County Jail but did not list any charges.

The investigation is ongoing.
