A Hamilton County Sheriff’s deputy is suspended without pay after being indicted by a grand jury on multiple child sex charges.
A Hamilton County grand jury indicted 49-year-old John Bruce Spaulding on six counts of sexual exploitation of a minor on August 31.
Spaulding was arrested a day later and booked at the Hamilton County Jail.
This is the second time Spaulding has faced similar charges. In 2009 he was suspended without pay from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office after a White County grand jury indicted Spaulding on aggravated sexual battery charges in relations to improper contact with two juveniles.
Those charges were later dismissed and Sheriff Jim Hammond reinstated Spaulding as a Hamilton County Deputy.
“He won his case and with the charges dismissed we were obligated to take him back,” Hammond told Channel 3.
According to court documents, Spaulding is accused of “unlawfully and knowingly possessing material that included a minor engaged in sexual activity or simulated sexual activity.”
Sheriff Jim Hammond says he has no reason to believe Spaulding possessed the material or obtained it while on duty.
Spaulding remains on unpaid leave pending the outcome of the criminal case against him. The Chattanooga man was arrested Thursday and booked into the Hamilton County Jail on $10,000 bond.
Spaulding was released from jail on bond and is expected to appear in Hamilton County Criminal Court on September 16.
