Rossville man arrested, charged with attempted child molestation

Posted: Updated:

The Dalton Police Department have arrested a Rossville man on charges of attempted child molestation and soliciting minors for indecent purposes.

48-year old Derrick Ethan Strong was taken into custody on Thursday, after attempting to meet up with two 14-year-old girls for sex.

Officials say Strong was texting an undercover Dalton Police officer, who Strong believed to be a teenage girl. Strong arranged a meeting with the 14-year-old girl, and her friend, at the Park Canyon Apartments complex on College Drive.

Upon arrival, Strong was taken into custody by Dalton detectives without incident.

Officials say Strong has been under investigation since late August, when Dalton detectives received a complaint that the suspect was attempting to lure underage girls to the Stay Lodge at 1116 Willowdale Rd.

Complaints reported that Strong had been staying at the Stay Lodge for at least 8 months, and had given a business card with contact information to at least one teenage girl.

Strong was arrested and charged with two counts of soliciting a minor for indecent purposes, and two counts of attempted child molestation.
