Two McMinn County school administrators have been honored by the Tennessee Department of Education for being among the best in the southeast part of the state.

Glen Puryear, in his third year as principal of Rogers Creek Elementary school, is among the honorees.  He's the Southeast Tennessee Principal of the Year, and is in the running for the statewide award.   The award is given annually to a school leader for outstanding service in education and exceptional leadership that drives overall improvements in his or her school.

Dr. Phillip Swanson, McMinn County Schools' longtime Secondary School Director was recently named as the region's top supervisor.   Superintendent Mickey Blevins says it is very rare for a school district to have two finalists in these categories.  The statewide winners will be announced in October.
