UPDATE: HCSO searching for witness in fatal ATV crash

Posted: Updated:

UPDATE: Hamilton County Sheriff's Office Traffic Investigators have been advised there may have been a witness to the ATV accident that occurred on Wednesday evening on Boy Scout Road.

HCSO describes the witness as:

  • White man
  • Driving a gold dually truck

One woman who asked us not to identify her, said she watched as two 4-wheelers approached a sharp curve on Boy Scout Road, with a truck appearing to chase behind. She then ran across the street to help after one of the 4-wheelers driven by the 14 -year-old boy crashed into a field. She says the driver of the truck told her to call 911, and left the scene.

"I started screaming. My son sees me over there he comes running; Had 911 on the phone and they just kind of coached us until the ambulances got there," she said.

Her son performed CPR on the boy until first responders arrived to transport him to the hospital, where he later died.

The other teen riding an ATV was not injured.

If anyone has any information they would like to offer regarding the ATV accident or a way to contact the witness in question, they are encouraged to contact the HCSO Traffic Division at 423-893-3503.

PREVIOUS STORY: An ATV crash Wednesday night resulted in the death of a juvenile, according to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.

It happened in the 400 block of Boy Scout Road around 6:30pm.

Sheriff's Office spokesman Matt Lea says the ATV went off Boy Scout Road and crashed in a field. The ATV may have rolled.

The young patient was transported to a local hospital in critical condition and later succumbed to their injuries.

The crash is currently under investigation; however, Lea says details are limited because the investigation involves a juvenile.
