Under the direction of Sara Knapp, in her at the helm, the Calhoun Yellow Jacket Marching Band numbers a very large and powerful 275 members. Even on the road they are an impressive presence in the stands. Ms. Knapp tells us she is having a great first year and beams with admiration of her students when she recalls how hard they worked in band camp.
Their halftime performance is interesting in that it has no theme. Instead, they have chosen to honor Michael Clark, their former band director, who retired last year after 37 years of teaching by playing some of his favorites. Those include: All My Life by the Foo Fighters, I Saw You Standing There by The Beatles, House of the Rising Sun by Del Shannon, and the tune they played for us, Play That Funky Music by Wild Cherry.
This awesome group is planning to attend a marching festival in late September in Armuchee. Be sure to check them out through the season as they support their team and fans at home and on the road. Our thanks to the Calhoun High School Yellow Jacket Marching Band for being our Friday Night Football Band of the Week!
