WWII artillery round detonated in Sequatchie County

Posted: Updated:

A World War II 75MM round was detonated Wednesday night in Sequatchie County.

Detectives with the Sequatchie County Sheriff's Office say they received a call about the discovery of an old unexploded artillery round.

The artillery round was taken to an open field where the Chattanooga Bomb Squad performed a control detonation.

Detective Jason Harvey with the Sequatchie County Sheriff's Office says the last time this happened was about 10 years ago.

He says the valley used to be a testing ground for artillery and it is common for people to make finds such as this.
