A Murphy, NC man was arrested Saturday after being indicted for sexual assaults involving a child.

Dennis James Lavender, 43, was investigated after allegations began in 2015 by a joint effort with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and the Cherokee County Department of Social Services.

The Cherokee County Grand Jury indicted Lavender in April, 2016 for first-degree sex offense as well as indecent liberties with a minor, according to a news release.

It took the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office nearly four months to find Lavender to arrest him.

Lavender is currently in the Cherokee County Detention Center under a $500,000.00 secure bond and is expected to be in Cherokee County Superior Court on November 7, 2016.
