A marked Chattanooga police vehicle was hit by a vehicle while an officer was investigating a car accident.

The crash caused major delays in both directions at 17800 I-24 westbound, on Sunday morning.

Chattanooga police say the police vehicle was parked legally and unoccupied on the right shoulder of the interstate. The officer assigned to that vehicle was conducting an investigation into another traffic crash which occurred prior to the crash.

The driver of a Chevy Tahoe lost control of their vehicle on slick roads, struck a concrete wall and continued forward hitting the CPD vehicle. The driver was immediately given aid by the officer on scene and transported to a local hospital via HCEMS with non-life threatening injuries. The officer on scene was not injured.
