We begin the 2016 Friday Night Football Band of the Week roster with a big and talented group from Bradley County. The Walker Valley High School Mustang Band is 277 members strong and can fill out a musical phrase even better than they fill out an opposing team's stands at an away game. We caught up with them at the first game of the season on a hot and steamy night at Bradley Central High School.
Many thanks to Cart Mom Carla Brown who leads a special group of parents that help make this group tick. She was kind enough to fill us in on all the season's details while the band and directors were hard at work.
Thanks to a very hot summer, the students could only work outside in the morning sessions, but what a job they have done. The show is called 'That's My Jam' and includes songs you will be singing, or may have even sang in your car on the way to the game. I was told 'Shake It Off' by Taylor Swift is just one of the awesome ear worms!
To keep track of the Mustangs' competition schedule, head over to www.walkervalleyband.com and find links there to follow them on Facebook and Twitter. They do plan on making their yearly trip to the ABC Marching Band Festival and Competition at Bradley Central the first weekend in October.
From the stands, they lit the Channel 3 camera up playing and singing with "Shout It Out" from the hit movie Drumline. Much success this season to the Walker Valley High School Mustang Band!
