Family and friends are preparing to say goodbye to a young McMinn County woman who was killed in a car crash on Monday.

State troopers said 25-year-old Brooke Matthews was driving eastbound on County Road 725 in Riceville when her car went off the side of the road hitting a culvert and a fence before catching on fire.

It's unclear what caused the crash.

Matthews would have turned 26 on Tuesday.

"She was so excited about her birthday. Tuesday is what she kept saying. It's not fair," Monica West, a close friend said.

Matthews got her hair cut by one of her good friends, Monica West, on Saturday. That would be the last time they would see each other.

West thought of her like a little sister.

"She was beautiful. She was just a sweet, loving person. Would do anything in the world for anybody. If I ever called her, I know she would be there," West said.

Right now, friends and family are focusing on the positive impact the young woman left.

"We all will always remember just that bubbly, happy, full of life person," West said.

Family members finalized funeral arrangements on Tuesday. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday followed by the memorial service at Ziegler Funeral Home.
