Man held in Tennessee in slaying of elderly Alabama woman
Bond is set at $1 million for a man accused in the death of an 88-year-old woman in northeast Alabama.
SCOTTSBORO, AL (AP) - Bond is set at $1 million for a man accused in the death of an 88-year-old woman in northeast Alabama.
Scottsboro police say 28-year-old Terrance Austin of Hollywood is charged with murder in the slaying of 88-year-old Ruby Durham of Scottsboro.
Police found the woman dead in her home and her car missing a week ago. The car was later found burned in Tennessee, where Austin was arrested.
Authorities have started the legal process to return Austin to Alabama. Scottsboro Police Chief Ralph Dawe says the slaying appears linked to the woman's car, a 1994 light blue Cutlass.
The case was Scottsboro's first murder investigation in seven years.
