Burger joint nearly fails, other restaurants fare well

Posted: Updated:

Restaurants in Hamilton County fared well this week with the lowest score coming in at an 80, which is well above a failing grade of 69 or below.

Memo’s on MLK Boulevard in Chattanooga scored an 80. The inspector noted they need to work on handwashing, holding temperatures for hot food and proper date marking for stored food.

In north Georgia, Willie’s Burger Shack in Dalton barely escaped failure with a score of 71. The inspector found a plastic pitcher and a box of raw meat patties set on top of the hand sink. Not only is that not proper storage, the hand sink must be accessible to employees at all times.

Employees cooled pasta incorrectly inside the walk-in cooler and chilled cheese and ham were kept too warm.

Several restaurants across the area earned perfect scores. Congratulations to:

  • Subway on Shallowford Road in Chattanooga
  • Kay’s Kastles on Dayton Pike in Soddy-Daisy
  • Subway on Frazier Avenue in Chattanooga
  • Lamar’s on East MLK Boulevard in Chattanooga
  • Chuy’s (bar) on Gunbarrel Road in Chattanooga
  • Five Guys Burger and Fries on Gunbarrel Road in Chattanooga
  • Zaxby’s on Lee Highway in Chattanooga
  • New York Pizza Department on Highway 153 in Hixson
  • Pleasant Valley Mountain Grill on Highway 411 North in Chatsworth, Ga.
  • Chuck Wagon Concessions on Park City Road in Rossville
  • Grandview on Patten Road in Lookout Mountain, Ga.
  • Lifestyles Cuisine on Sanford Lane in Flintstone, Ga.
