Thursday afternoon's Heat Index showed the ugly side of summer in the South.
Good Thursday. The heat and humidity remain at dangerous levels today and look to stay with us through the weekend.
Today we will climb to 98 for the high, matching yesterday's high. The heat index will reach about 101. We will see a few scattered storms developing east of town along a weak front. Late this afternoon we may see one or two of these backing into the Tennessee Valley.
Friday we will round out the week with highs in the mid-90s. The humidity will actually build even more over the weekend. Heat index values will get up to 105 degrees Friday afternoon. We will cling to only a 20% chance for a shower or storm Friday.
This weekend will be similar to Friday. Highs Saturday and Sunday will reach the mid to upper 90s with the heat index continuing to hover around 105 during the heat of the day. I expect only one or two isolated storms through the entire weekend.
Next week will still be hot and muggy, but we will see a better chance for scattered showers and storms for the first half of the week.
