East Ridge police are looking for a suspect in a bank robbery today.

It happened at First Tennessee Bank on Ringgold Road, shortly after 1:30 p.m.

According to Captain Tim Mullinax, spokesperson for East Ridge Police Department, an unidentified man entered the bank and demanded money before fleeing the scene.

No one was injured in the robbery and it is not clear if the man was armed.

The incident forced an evacuation of the bank when the suspect left behind a suspicious package that looked like an explosive device. Mullinax says bomb squad members determined it to be a hoax.

The bank released the following statement about the robbery:

“At First Tennessee, our paramount concern is always for our customers and those who serve them. We are grateful that no one was hurt in the robbery at our East Ridge branch and are  extremely appreciative of law enforcement officials who are investigating this situation. Because this is an active investigation, we will refer all comments to area law enforcement.”

Mullinax says the unknown suspect was a black male wearing a brightly colored reflective vest, who fled the scene on a small pink bicycle. The bicycle was found by police in a nearby area, but the suspect remains on the run.
