(WRCB) - Happy 4th of July! The big weather story today is the heat and humidity. We will reach 96 for the high, but it will feel oppressive with the heat index reaching about 101. For the afternoon and evening hours we can expect a few pop-up showers and storms. I think most of the fireworks displays will be fine. By 9pm, most if not all of any storms that develop will be gone or dying.
Tuesday we will see a front moving through bringing a good chance of rain. I would expect scattered showers and thunderstorms as early as your morning commute, then they will continue to pop up on and off all day. Rainfall amounts will vary. Some of you will get about 1/2" while some isolated area could get about 2" of rain. We need it. Most of us are under at least moderate to severe drought conditions. Our rainfall for the year is about 9" below average. The clouds and rain should keep temps a bit lower, near 90 for the high.
Wednesday will be warm and humid with a high of 93 and some afternoon showers and storms flaring up.
The end of the week and the weekend will see the rain chances drying up and heat and humidity ramping up to dangerous levels. By Saturday and Sunday we will reach 98 for the high with the heat index at about 105. The rain chance for the weekend is 30% for the afternoon hours.
