Driver impaled by flying debris on GA highway

Posted: Updated:

SANDY SPRINGS, GA (AP) - A woman is recovering after police say a sharp piece of debris flew through her windshield and impaled her in the neck while she was driving outside of Atlanta.

Sandy Springs Police Sgt. Forrest Bohannon tells WSB-TV (http://2wsb.tv/297AhzA ) that the woman was able to pull over and call for help on state Route 400 Saturday afternoon after the object, similar to a railroad tie, crashed through the windshield and struck her.

Bohannon says the woman was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say there's no evidence someone threw the object at the woman's car. Bohannon says investigators aren't sure whether the object fell off a vehicle or was kicked up by a vehicle's tires.
