Parts of TN Valley in "extreme drought"

Posted: Updated:

We are now entering extreme drought conditions in parts of the Chattanooga area (all of us are at least under a moderate to severe drought). In Chattanooga, we have seen 18.46" since January 1 which is 8.41" below the average of 26.87" this far into the year.

I don't see much relief on the way. The weekend will be hot and humid with highs in the low to mid 90s, and only the most slight chance for a passing shower.

We will see a better chance for showers and storms Monday and Tuesday, but even then it won't be a drought buster, just hit and miss showers on and off through Monday afternoon and evening (and possibly into Tuesday).

After Tuesday, the heat and humidity really ramp up with not much chance for rain and highs in the upper 90s by Thursday and Friday.

Good Thursday.  We have another bitterly cold start today with temps in the low to mid 10s this morning.  Fortunately, our winds are fairly calm this morning so wind chill won't be as much of an issue heading out.

The roads will be very slick including interstates and main city roads Tuesday night because of these cold temperatures. So travel should be discouraged.
