PREVIOUS STORY: Tennessee Department of Transportation officials are working to repair a weak spot on the existing bridge on U.S. 27 North over 12th St.
Officials say crews discovered the spot while investigating a pothole on the bridge.
If not repaired, the weak spot could potentially result in more damage to the bridge over time.
As a result, the outside lane of the bridge on U.S. 27 North will be closed for construction.
Officials say the exit ramp to MLK Blvd. will also be closed due to the repairs.
Drivers who take the bridge for morning commute, are urged to seek an alternate route Thursday morning.
Officials recommend drivers use the Market St. or 4th St. exit.
The repair is expected to be completed, with lanes on the bridge and the MLK Blvd. exit ramp re-opened, by Thursday afternoon.
If you must use this area for travel, drivers are urged to use caution and be patient.
