Chattanooga city council members unanimously passed the city's operating budget tonight.

The news came from District 7 Councilman Chris Anderson via Twitter shortly after the vote took place.

City officials say the budget, totaling $230 million, will go toward safer streets, stronger neighborhoods and education among other things.

Anderson says the first reading of the City's capital budget also passed unanimously tonight. A second and final vote, unless amendments are made, is expected to happen next week.
