UPDATE: Person struck by train in Cleveland ID'ed

UPDATE: The person struck by a train Tuesday has been identified as Joseph Dale Cross, 28 years old, from Cleveland.

According to Cleveland police, Cross was taken to Erlanger where he is in intensive care. 


PREVIOUS STORY: A person has been struck by a train in Cleveland. The person has been airlifted to Erlanger. 

The incident happened at approximately 7 a.m. Tuesday morning, near APD 40 and Goldstar Drive. 

Cleveland Police say a westbound Norfolk Southern train with 3 locomotives and 56 rail cars struck a person, who was on the tracks. 

Sergeant Evie West with the Cleveland Police Department says the engineer of the train called 911 to report the accident. West said when officers arrived on scene they found the victim about 28 rail cars from the nearest road.

"He was alert and conscious, but they decided to call life force and life force took him to Erlanger medical center," West said.

Officials say the train traveling about 40 mph at this location.

Drivers should seek an alternate route.
